Ingrid behind Ing Ceramics

The creator and artisan behind the unique collection of handmade ceramic design lamps. Located in the serene beauty of rural Spain, the studio is surrounded by nature, and therefore provide endless inspiration for my work. I never want to leave this place because it is so peaceful and special.

As a child I made earrings because I couldn’t find the ones I was looking for, I sold them at local markets. And maybe here started the thrive for creating. It took me through a career of owning a hotel, a spa and a cookingstudio in the Netherlands. I still give cooking classes because the space I created there is a great space to work in.

I started making tableware but I wanted my proces more creative , so I started to make lamps and lampshades. I like to combine sizes, shapes and colours. For me it is a never ending process.

Artist statement

I think we live in a time that we have to rethink about how we use materials, the things we buy and how we live together with nature.
With my lamps I want you to make a different choice. To give people an opportunity to buy handmade, take a step away from mass production, choose something different and unique.

My pieces are made in the countryside of Andalusia, Spain. I use for a great part solar energy to heat the kiln. I try to glaze less and use the natural look of the clay because with glazing a lot of chemicals are involved. I re use clay and materials where possible.

I play in making my lamp bases with natural shapes and I try to keep them light and playful. I just want them to make you happy when you look at them and feel something about the special place where I live.

For the lampshades I use as far as possible handwoven or dyed fabrics from small makers all over the world. You will find lots of tribal fabrics and I am always looking for more.

Maybe I wanted to unite the world a little bit more. We are here together and we have to make it a better place.
